Revive to Survive Representative in Sri Lanka

Dr. Iresh Jayaweera (MBBS, Certificate in Palliative Care)

Dr.Iresh Jayaweera is a medical officer working at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He expressed his leadership qualities from his child hood. Being a worthy product of Ananda College Colombo he has been organizing many religious and social activities for the benefit of fellow Sri Lankans. As a past president of Buddhist Association of Faculty of Medical Sciences he organized many activities for the benefit of Cancer Patients of National cancer Institute and ‘Shantha sevana hospice’ at Maharagama. In 2007 he initiated a drinking water project with a collaboration with Cancer Care Association (CCA), from which thousands and thousands of pediatric patients benefit even today.

When he was working in Galle he initiated to form the Cancer Care Association – Karapitiya Branch and became the first president. As a devoted Buddhist he initiated to build a shrine room for the Oncology unit of Karapitiya Hospital. With the advices of Dr.Upul Ekanayake Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Dr.Samadhi Rajapaksa he initiated the Home Based Palliative Care Service for the first time in Sri Lanka in Galle district in 2010-2011 periods.

As a true follower of Dhamma and with a firm belief of ‘Cause and Effect’ he is continuing his voluntary service as the secretary of CCA organizing and supporting many of its noble activities with CCA membership. As a representative of Revive to Survive, he too will be assisting in identification of patients in need for assistance with medications.
